"Thor's home: the realm of Asgard
Disney has a rich history with the subject of alien life - and conspiracies surrounding alien life: an ABORTED ATTEMPT at UFO disclosure in the 1950s, an apparent TEST OF PUBLIC REACTION to alien visitation in the 1990s, and covert CIAINVOLVEMENT in one of the studio's more recent live action UFO-themed movies, RACE TO WITCH MOUNTAIN". The aforementioned 'test of public reaction to alien visitation' refers to" Alien Encounters from New Tomorrowland -"a 1995 TV program/promo for a then-new attraction at Disney World. The program presented alien visitation as a matter of fact and was personally vetted and introduced by Disney boss Michael Eisner. Many in the UFO community believe it was designed to take the public's temperature on the issue of UFO disclosure, but the program's writer/director, Andrew Thomas, has DENIED THIS.
The Disney attraction - called 'ExtraTERRORestrial Encounter' - presented crowds with the sight of a frightful alien entity in a supposedly secure glass chamber. Predictably, the alien got loose and wrought havoc, terrifying young children.
Over the next several years aliens will again be eliciting gasps from crowds at Disney venues. Although this time the gasps will be more of excitement and awe than of terror.
Marvel recently REVEALED details about its new "THOR" attraction set to open at Disneyland on November 1 of this year:
"Astrophysicist Jane Foster, who established a special relationship with Thor, has been studying the Bifrost, a cosmic bridge that allows Thor to "travel between the Nine Realms, including Earth. She has determined that the Bifrost is set to open again in Southern California and pinpointed the precise location as Innoventions at Disneyland park.
Inside Innoventions, Foster and her team are preparing for the opening of the Bifrost with the installation of Thor: Treasures of Asgard, a collection of objects brought to Earth straight from Asgard. After viewing the exhibit", you'll be invited to enter a chamber where the Bifrost will transport you to Asgard for an audience with Thor himself!"
Thor, of course, is an inter-dimensional alien being. Marvel's first "THOR "movie (2011) explored themes and ideas surrounding Ancient Astronauts, wormhole technology and - in the form of S.H.I.E.L.D. - a Men-in-Black-style agency benevolently enforcing a 'just' cover-up of alien visitation (an idea that Marvel is now exploring in depth in its new TV show, "AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.").
Looking further ahead, and to a different movie franchise, Tom Stags, the Chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts recently shared a first look at concept art for an "AVATAR"-themed land coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom in 2017.
Disney has been working with "AVATAR "director James Cameron for the past two years in an effort to bring the alien world of Pandora to life in their parks. Over at the DISNEYPARKS BLOG, Stags writes:
"Our combined team has taken huge steps forward in "imagineering" Pandora as a real place for our guests to see, hear and touch. At the first-ever D23 Expo in Japan, we shared an early glimpse of the plans for AVATAR at Disney's Animal Kingdom park and I wanted to share some of these breathtaking images and a short preview of what's to come with all of you.
As these concept renderings show in epic scale, in the world of AVATAR guests will encounter awe-inspiring floating mountains and wander through a nighttime jungle of bioluminescent plants that are alive with light and sound. Guests will also discover what it feels like to soar into the sky riding a Banshee."
"AVATAR 2", "3", and "4"are scheduled for release between December 2016 and December 2018. Cameron will helm all three sequels.
"THOR: THE DARK WORLD" hits 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters on November 8 this year.
