Dark Skies 2012

Dark Skies 2012
DARK SKIES (2012)Plot: As the Barrett family's peaceful suburban life is rocked by escalating series of disturbing events they come to learn that a terrifying and deadly force is after them.Starring: Keri Russell, Josh Hamilton, Dakota Goyo, Kadan Rockett, Josh Stamberg, LJ Benet, JK SimmonsMY REVIEW OR THOUGHTS:"Two Possibilities exist... either we are alone in the universe or we are not... both are equally terrifying".
Arthur C. ClarkeNormal Peaceful life, everyday life, a nice community, fathers and mothers, cookouts, kids playing and one night all that changes. Do you believe? Do you want to believe that there is something out there? Something in the stars, universe. Something staring down upon us, something that wants to change us, visit us, alter us, something terrifying. Something playing in the sky. Something that wants to make itself known.I've always been a person that believes anything is possible. I don't have a closed mind. I'm willing to accept that there might be something greater or scarier or something out there wanting to explore. I have always been a fan of movies that deal with aliens.Dark Skies is about one family. A family struggling to make ends meet as the father can't find a job, the two boys are your average kids one coming on teenage years and the youngest exploring bugs and lizards and enjoys spook stories. Each night things happen, fridge raided, food everywhere, next night items stacked up. The youngest says it's the Sandman, he comes in his room.Night after night strange things happen. No one takes the family serious. Cops say nothing is wrong. Security says the alarm is fine. Soon the youngest starts changing, blackouts, screaming. This is a nice little slow burn sci-fi horror film. It's slowly builds and builds and builds for the viewer as the story comes to light. The parents think it's just the son going crazy until the parents start to experience the weird. If your a paranormal fan or one that believes in aliens or one that believes in abduction experiences of the strange then this movie will work perfect. It plays out like your basic UFO Abduction story. Seemingly innocent normal family experiences everything we don't want to think is there inside the darkness, inside the night sky. We only want to believe what we can see, what we can rationalize with her scientific minds. There's an underlying creepiness to this film, you get a little goosebumps thinking about the idea that there's nothing you can do about what's happening. It's very odd, its is very classic style spookiness. Something I really like about this film is that it's done in a reality-based setting. You the viewer can pretty much accept or think that this is what would happen if the whole UFO abduction scenario was real. That is one thing I like about this movie, is it, does it in a true story setting.I enjoyed this movie. I liked it. It plays homage to those old alien abduction scenarios, gives you the mind altering thinking that maybe it's possible, maybe this really does happen. Its very creepy. The special effects are great. The odd strange incidents and images and flashes of weirdness all work bringing the story together twisting it into a spiral ending and final showdown.I thought the acting was great. I thought the direction was great. I thought the story-line was great. It doesn't add any new originality to the subject or to showcase something new in the film but what it does do is that it had just enough entertainment, just enough spooky, just enough weirdness to hold the viewer. What I liked about the film is the slow burn reality of it at the beginning and also the build up of the characters. The characterization works flawless, so many films this day do not build up the characters, so you don't feel anything toward those characters when something happens. Dark Skies builds the characters up so that the viewer can relate to them, understand them, become a part of them and when it does happen, you can experience the turmoil, torment and horror taking place. Some will love, some won't, but I enjoyed it for what it was. I had a great time and was not disappointed, I was satisfied with the end result.
