We NEVER have flight traffic over town with the exception of crop dusters and "Heart Flight". On or about July 15,2009, at 2:30am I was awakened from sleep by the sound of helicopters. I use a CPAP breathing machine which generates a fair amount of internal noise (ie: I can hear it's pumping inside my head, but externally, it's almost silent), so the noise was loud enough to wake me up. I live in a two story house with a sleeping porch off my bedroom. The sleeping porch has large windows across the front of the house. I went to the windows and I saw a Black Hawk helicopter flying due N-NW at minimum height. There were the lights of other copters already ahead of the one I heard. As I watched, in about 2 minutes another came over in the same straight direction. I counted out 2 minutes and another and then another came over the town. I got the impression they were pursing something. I watched as they began an intense search at about 10-15 miles north of town. The copters set up a perimeter, with one at each corner of a grid, and the others (there appeared to be 6 to 8 total), began moving east to west and west to east. The entire time I watched, there was a sound in the air of a very low decibel hum, which made a kind of whum, whum, sound (higher to lower range and back again). I watched for about 1 and 1/2 hours. Since I had to get up for work, I finally packed it in. Two days later my daughter witnessed several strange events. She was driving home from a movie at about 11:30 pm on the 17the when she witnessed a black helicopter (it was silhouetted against the sky and clearly black) flying out of the direction of our town. When she reached home, she got out of the car and heard the whum whum noise and noticed a strange glow in the North North-East emitting pulses almost like heat lightening, but it had a 1-2-3 rhythm. The same rhythm over and over...low glow, medium glow, high glow. There were no clouds in the sky, only the strange glow. The pulsing and hum went on all night. About 4 days after that, my daughter was out walking. It was a calm day, no wind, no storms etc. Then suddenly she heard the hum again and was hit by a sudden blast of air that rushed past her. About 15 days ago my daughter again noticed the pulsing lights. She went out onto the porch to sit and watch it as it was only a few miles out of town in the north. Suddenly a helicopter emerged from the glow and skirted the edge of town. A few minutes later she started to gag stumbled into the house calling to me "mom can't you smell that?" She was overcome by an intense smell of something very pungent, very acrid, and metallic. We ran around the house and closed all the windows and doors. I got her a painter's face mask and that helped keep out the smell for her. We were baffled by why she could smell it, and I could not. She would say.. oh it's gone and then get up and as she passed by a window, she would retch again. Two of our dogs could not smell it, but one got a terrible sneezing fit. She has always had an acute sense of smell, but what was she smelling? We know the smell of every farm chemical and this was nothing she had smelled before. I I read where on July 24, 2009, a crop circle was discovered at Wilbur, Washington. If you take a ruler and lay it on a Washington State map the line would be a straight going North-North West and in the EXACT line the copters flew over town and headed away the first night I saw them. Then on the night of September 11, 2009, my daughter and I went outside to star gaze. We saw a "star" headed across the sky from west to east in a straight line, about 15 degrees above the horizon. It got very much brighter, and accelerated up and away from it's position at a high rate of speed disappearing into the dark. I hate to say it, but it looked just like Star Trek when the ship jumps into hyperspace. We then saw a "star moving directly overhead and zig-zagging from it's center position to the west,back to center, back to west, back to center. The degree of zig-zag was small, but very discernible. I then saw another "star" move, stop, turn in a circle, then disappear. My daughter then saw a small globe of light, perhaps 40ft off the ground streak past her. We went inside, scared but a little excited. Then last night, September 12, 2009, at about 10:30pm, we went back outside and saw a bright object, much like an airplane when seen head on in the sky near the mountains. (It was NOT an airplane..there were no running lights, no noise). We were watching it, when it suddenly moved at a very high rate of speed directly towards us, covering 25 miles in seconds. We were terrified. It stopped at the edge of town, which is only 3 blocks away and hovered perhaps 200ft above the ground. It was very bright,very menacing, silent,shaped like an orb with spikes coming out and seemed to have a companion light under it to one side. We were very scared. We ran into the house and we peeked out of a window and it stayed positioned for about 2 hours. At one point I watched the light blink out, only to go back to the window later and see it was back. We turned on all the lights in the house, locked the doors and windows, brought in the cat and huddled in the living room afraid to sleep. At about 3am my daughter went to the kitchen window over the sink. That side of the house is very dark with no outdoor light and a large tree in the yard. She turned off the lights, pulled back the curtain and screamed. She saw a grey shape, about 4ft tall, grey colored from top to bottom, in an approximate human form moving rapidly across the yard from south to north. I cannot begin to tell you how frightened we are by what has occurred. We are not hoaxing you, we are just regular people caught in an abnormal and frightening situation. I had been investigating UFOs for twenty-two years, but the sighting that completely changed my view of the phenomenon occurred at Lone Pine, California. My wife and I observed a UFO resting on a small grove of aspen trees. We had been attracted to the area by a terrifically bright light that was so intense we were unable to look directly at it.

Then the light subsided somewhat and we could see the clear outline of the object. All the way around it were openings in its side. The light began to grow until it covered nearly the entire area of the object. As it grew in size, it lost its brilliance and became a lavender color. When the light reached nearly the entire size of the object, the illumination began to shrink down again until it got to the very brilliant white portion again, which, if my judgment were correct, would probably have been about twenty feet in diameter. Then the light would again increase its size to maybe three-quarters or four-fifths of the size of the entire object, and it would be that lavender color.

This process of expansion and contraction of light continued, and my wife and I realized that "it was matching the rhythm of our respiration rate".

We became aware that the object was increasing its tempo. We saw one edge of the UFO raise so that it was no longer level with the tops of the trees. In the length of time that it took me to turn my head, the object had moved ten miles out over Death Valley. I know it was ten miles, because we drove out underneath it.

The thing that really amazed my wife and me was that it took off at that tremendous speed "INSTANTLY"--with no sound, no fire, no smoke. And all of the trees leaned "with" it. They were not blasted backward. We looked the area over carefully and found no more small limbs and leaves on the ground than one would find under any grove of trees.

The word that kept coming to me was that the object was impelled, rather than "propelled". It was "drawn", rather than "pushed". If there would have been any force pushing it, it certainly would have blasted limbs and leaves off the trees.

We drove out in the desert and stayed with the object for probably an hour and a half, directly underneath it. When we first stopped the car, some substance that looked like whipped cream or heavy fog rolled out of the openings in its sides. It was probably not over 300 feet above the ground, but it was completely hidden from view after it produced its own "cloud" of this substance.

We knew it was there, though, so we drove back a distance so that we could c1early see it sitting on top of its artificial cloud.

What we were observing, I believe, was a phenomenon going on inside the object. I believe that the thing was breathing, and I see no reason to change my thought on that matter.

My wife and I both had the feeling that we were witnessing the ultimate in creation. The closer we came to the object, the more we were suffused with a feeling of reverence and beauty and humbleness.

I'll tell about another object we witnessed, and I will illustrate why I know there were no occupants inside it. This sighting occurred outside of Seligman, Arizona. We watched the object coming, then observed it change its course to come to hover not more than fifteen feet above our Volkswagen. It seemed to me that it was just looking at us, as if it were studying our little car.

I jumped out with my Hasselblad camera and swung it up to take a picture. But before I could even touch the shutter, the UFO zipped right toward a little butte.

I had a terrible, sick feeling that anything so beautiful was going to crash and be destroyed. Instead of crashing, though, just before it touched the butte it shot "straight up". It didn't stop; it just changed direction--a right angle, straight up--and disappeared.

In fact, if one needs a metaphor to describe this story, I would suggest the Greek tragedy: Bennewitz was victim of his own belief, the ufological community was victim of its own naivety, counter-intelligence agencies were victim of their own paranoia, and the tax payers had to foot the bill once again for little return on the investment.

PSI AS THE FIFTH DIMENSION

Another interesting book I read recently is Karl Brunstein"s "Beyond the Four Dimensions: Reconciling physics, parapsychology and UFOs" (New York: Walker and Co., 1979). In spite of the title, however, this book is not really about UFOs. It is more in line with philosophy of science and sociology of science than with paranormal studies.

The author provides a very accessible description of the evolution of Newtonian physics into the Einstein's physics. From this point of view, it is an excellent vulgarization book. Complex concepts such as non-locality, reversibility of time, relativity can be understood by people having little background in physics and mathematics. Also, the author is not naive and understands that science is a social construct and its evolution is intimately linked to social conditions. This is quite refreshing, as it comes from a physicist.

His book, therefore, is really an attempt to establish linkages between Einstein's physics and parapsychology that is both cognizant of existing knowledge in both realms and of the social conditions necessary to make such a linkage. His main thesis is that psi effects are the observable, but extreme, outcome of the fifth dimension. What he proposes is essentially an analogy between physical sciences and parapsychology. In the normal physical world, we live in the four dimensions (the 3 physical plus time) of the Newtonian physics. But when we go to the extremes, the ultra small (e.g., sub-atomic particles, photons) or the ultra big (e.g., stars, black holes), then we need Einstein's physics to explain the strange things happening. The analogy, then, would be that in the normal world of human affairs, regular psychology (and social sciences) are good enough to explain what is happening, but when we reach the extremes, different approaches are needed to explain the strange things happening. Brunstein sees parapsychology fitting such a role. I would add that the collective dimension of human affairs needs to be included, and that parasociology is therefore needed as well.

Brunstein goes a little bit further in stating that human consciousness constitutes the fifth dimension, interacting with the four others, and thus tries to provide an unified understanding of the universe. In the normal world, human consciousness interacts with the physical world by the application of human intent to the physical world (or to other human beings through the physical world - speaking is sound vibrations, gesture and writing are photons in movement, touch is physical force and electrical signals along the nerves, reproduction is bio-chemical reactions, etc), and this can be described by Newton's physics, Jung/Freund's psychology, Durkheim/Marx (and many others)'s sociology, etc. It is in the extreme world that we need to better understand how intent interacts with the physical world (and others' consciousness). Brunstein proposes that psi is what can be measured when there are interactions in the extreme. From that point, he proposes that UFOs are psi "devices" of extra-terrestrial origin used to interact with us.

I am not so sure about UFO as "psi devices," but he raises an interesting point about the extremes of human consciousness. I would propose that it is, indeed, the unconscious, where psi phenomena seem to originate according to most parapsychologists. The collective dimension of the extreme part of human consciousness would then be what is called the collective unconscious. This in turn provides further justification for a "special" discipline within sociology (or social sciences) to study the collective dimension of psi effects.

Brunstein's book is very speculative, particularly the second part where he goes beyond scientific vulgarization. But it is an interesting read, and it can certainly provide some food for thought for those espousing the so-called "2nd degree ETH" (ETs are behind the phenomena but it is essentially a psi technology). I do not agree with the 2nd degree ETH, but it is in my view a step forward compared to the standard ETH.

Migraine Auras And Ufo Encounters

" In 1998, having read the book "MIGRAINE", by Oliver Sacks, I published an article telling that it was the makings that in the least descriptions of UFO encounters were aligned to descriptions of the symptoms of migraine, really the distortions of skill connected surrounded by the migraine being there. One quote which she gives from the book seems really substance to the matter of why this focus is from time to time unhurried by ufologists and UFO percipients: "Apart from their cheapness and incidence, migraine auras manage an brainteaser. A form of populace in the West have either never heard of them or, if they have, do not acknowledge their arrange, plane of renown, or ubiquity. Supreme populace who have developed their unprepared distortions of vision have no championship for these and have gotten no scenario." Deliberately, it would be ridiculous to deduction that migraine auras coerce side for all or most UFO reports, but absolutely a plan of them and other distortions of skill, coerce give clues to the real arrange of in the least or puzzling UFO reports - faint from hoaxes, of course.

Abductions And Hybrids Still A Dangerous Game

Carol Rainey's ARTICLE BELOW gives insights into more than the activities of Hopkins and Jacobs, for it sheds light on how people become converts to new (to them) religious movements, and the mentality of closed communities which see themselves under siege. We all know of people who have converted to the religion of a new partner, particularly where that religion is a major part of said partner's life. When this religion is one which is seen as dissident by the newcomer's original community it can place huge demands on them. Often the newcomer for a time at least becomes more fervent than those who have held the belief for their lifetime. We can see in Carol's case some of the attractions of this - one can see oneself as part of a new community to which one must give total commitment, which offers what it claims are profound insights into the human condition, and gives the adherent the sense that they are in the front line of a cosmic battle.Of course the claims of any new religion are often difficult for the newcomer to accept In the case of abductionism this included biologically impossible claims of human/alien hybrids, and physically impossible claims of abductees becoming invisible or being sucked through solid walls. But that's the point of a high demand religion, it doesn't cost much to believe in things that are relatively easy to believe in, its believing the impossible which takes real faith. Of course the more impossible the things you start believing the more alienated you become from outside family, friends and the wider community, and the more you depend on the in group and its charismatic leader(s). Like all cult leaders Hopkins does not look for equal companions and colleagues in his life, but disciples; so it is no surprise that when Carol Rainey started to lose her new faith and ask awkward questions, she was ejected as part of the 'enemy', the dreaded unbelievers.The reaction of the wider UFO community to the first version of Carol's article when posted on UFOUpDates, and to the complaints of Emma Woods, resembles rather the reaction of the institutional Catholic Church towards allegations of child abuse - blame the victim and shoot the messenger. There is also an eerie similarity between this implosion and the collapse of the Middle Eastern dictatorships, the hysterical attacks on critics, and the cringing, arse-licking messages of loyalty to the dear and glorious leader who has sacrificed everything for you, his ungrateful children. When things really get tough going they can always fall back on the hate-fest. Up on the screens goes the picture of Emmanuel Goldstein Klass, and the whole people can shout abuse and rage at him. Anyone who challenges the great leader and wise helmsman is of course an agent of the imperialist running dog Klass, no doubt spending their time pissing in the peoples' beer, crapping in their burgers, sabotaging their factories and skinning their cats.What the supporters of Hopkins and Jacobs want to hide is that they have never once offered any real help or healing to their victims, only confirmed them in their worst fears, and told them time and again how helpless they are before the terrible greys, reinforcing dependency some might call it. What they and their ilk are doing is finding frightened and confused people who have had unnerving experiences or deep seated fears and moulded their memories and imaginations into their own canvasses. And, as is obvious from Hopkins's autobiography, are in effect projecting their own inner demons onto their victims. Never once, it seems, do they care whether the said experiences might be caused by medical conditions which might require counselling or treatment, because they know the answer. Messing with vulnerable peoples minds is a kind of mental rape.If that were all it would be bad enough, but invoking the notion of the hybrids as being out their in the real world is far far worse. What they are suggesting is that there are people out there in the community who are not properly human, who are indeed quasi-demonic enemies of humankind. That is just about the wickedest thing anyone can suggest. One of the contributors to UFO UpDates asks whether critics are comparing Hopkins and Jacobs to Hitler. Substitute the word 'Jews' for 'hybrids' in their writings and the you will see that the proposition is not as absurd as you think. Indeed their hybrid talk falls into a category which has been called 'antisemitism without the Jews', in which ancient antisemitic stereotypes are employed, but attributed to substitute groups such 'the Illuminati', etc.Of course you might think that few people would take all this literally, but clearly Hopkins (an artist), Jacobs (a history professor) and Andrus (a not unsuccessful businessman) do. We already have someone claiming that she suspects the son of an abductee is a hybrid (what does she propose doing one wonders). In Britain a good few years ago there was a person who went round claiming that his neighbours and members of the local community were alien 'vermin' and making threats against them. Fortunately he did not have access to guns, unlike many such characters in America. If he had there can be little doubt there would have been a massacre. All of this brings another important insight, how people who at least think of themselves as good and decent people can fall into doing wicked things, because they see themselves as acting in the cause of righteousness. In fighting the imaginary grays, the abduction hunters become identical to them.On a less sinister note, if people start suspecting the neighbourhood kids of being hybrids, then maybe some will take this identity on board, and we will have the start of a new youth culture, rather like the wannbe vampires and goths. The hybrid motif may well resonate with alienated young people in the liminal zone between childhood and adulthood, who feel neither one thing nor the other. Perhaps they will meet in sterile-looking clubs called hives with minimalist decor and reclaimed dental and medical furniture. The most fanatical will get their eyes surgically elongated and their lips amputated, this done by the more sleazy variety of plastic surgeon; the less well off in dingy tattoo parlours in the parts of town where, if you are not careful, your wallet will walk away leaving you bleeding to death on the ground.The Garry McKinnon case rumbles on with arch turncoat Clegg abandoning him. Sadly the debates about McKinnon's mental health have obscured the real issue, that by a treaty that previous less politically correct generations would not have hesitated to call treasonous, the entire British people have been made subject to the laws of a foreign realm, the United States. I actually doubt that the US government cares a fig for McKinnon, it is all about humiliating the British government and people, and rubbing the former colonial power's nose in it. There are only two groups of people who could rightfully be extradited from the UK to the US: US citizens who have committed a crime there and fled here from justice, or British citizens who have voluntarily physically entered the US and placed themselves under the protection of the local laws with the reciprocal duty to obey them, and commit a crime over there and then flee justice. Garry McKinnon has, as far as I know, never once set foot in the US and is under no more duty to obey the laws of the United States than he is to obey those of China or Iran. Can you actually imagine that a US court would even for a moment consider extraditing a Tibetan nationalist to China who had hacked into the Chinese defence system and nearly disabled their nuclear arsenal?On a lighter note, on a Radio Programme about Charlie Chaplin [LINK] there was a reference to a day in 1916 when over 800 people across the USA reported seeing Chaplin, and that this was investigated by the Boston Society for Psychical Research. Any further details anyone?

Five Reasons Why Aliens Will Make Contact With The Japanese First

I've been thinking about extraterrestrials a lot this week. Do they exist? How will we know? Who will they call if they decide to make contact with us, and through what medium? First off, nobody knows if extraterrestrials really exist. Organizations like SETI are banking on the high possibility that they do, but to date there is no concrete evidence to prove or disprove this. For the purposes of contemplation, though, let's just assume they do. If aliens decide to make contact with Earthlings, they'll probably want to contact the Japanese using prime numbers and laser pulses. Call me biased (I was born and raised in Japan), but I think there is a really good possibility that this will be the case (and so does the guy who writes alien messages for SETI). And I don't just think this because I spent my childhood watching reenactments of UFO sightings on Japanese TV while eating fried noodles out of a giant UFO-shaped bowl aptly named "UFO Yakisoba."

Here are five reasons why aliens might reach out to humankind via the islands of Japan first.

1. The Japanese are ready to greet them. Part of Defense Minister Shigeru Ishiba's national security strategy includes musings about how we'd respond to an alien attack under a pacifist constitution. Late last year, he told the press:

If they descended, saying 'People on Earth, let's make friends,' it would not be considered an unjust attack on our country. And there is another issue of how can we convey our intentions if we don't understand what they are saying. We should consider various possibilities.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Nobutaka Machimura has also stated his firm belief that extraterrestrials do exist. The Japanese government has detailed official guidelines on what to do if we do indeed come in contact with extraterrestrials.

You could make the counterargument that the Japanese government's heightened fear of alien attacks may deter extraterrestrials from landing there, I actually think that aliens will feel more at ease knowing that the Japanese are at least aware of and ready for their arrival. What's the fun in arriving at a party where nobody knows who you are?

2. We emailed them. In 1983, Japanese astronomers sent a radio message to Altair-a solar system 16 light years away-with 13 binary-encoded images 71 by 71 pixels each showing some basic facts about us, like where our planet is located, what humans look like, the structure of DNA, and the basic chemistry of life on earth. If someone on Altair had received this message, then we can expect a reply as early as 2015.

"When constructing a message to extraterrestrials, it's important that we make it a message that represents the diversity of human cultures," says Douglas Vakoch, Director of Interstellar Message Composition at SETI. "It makes sense to start with science because ET doesn't speak English or Japanese or Swahili, but I'm going to be very disappointed if the only thing we hear from ET is that 2+2=4. I want to know what they think is important in their world."

Messages sent to aliens-including the 1983 Japanese one-are written in prime numbers because it's a concept that intelligent species universally understand. A similar message was sent in 1974 from the world's largest radio telescope in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, but this one was sent to a cluster of stars 25,000 light years away. We won't be hearing back from those aliens for a while. But the Altair-bound message holds promise to return within our lifetimes.

3. Japan has one of the only observatories that is actively seeking optical frequencies from outer space. Most observatories search only for radio frequencies. Even after Nobel Prize-winning physicist Charles Townes suggested looking for brief laser pulses for alien detection in the sixties, people ruled it out because it was too expensive and energy-consuming. Nishiharima is the only place that's currently scanning the skies for nanosecond-level pulses in the air waves. "I think it's very reasonable that the first detection of life beyond earth could happen in Japan," says Vakoch. "Brief pulses are like morse code. You can send an enormous amount of information very quickly. If someone could text message ET, it'll be Nishiharima. That assumes, of course, that we can decode what they were trying to say."

4. Japan will soon have AIs that match alien intelligence. Aliens are supposedly infinitely more advanced and brainy than humans are, so the most likely scenario is that, when they get here, they'll want to talk to AIs. Since the Japanese have already figured out how to navigate virtual worlds with brain power and have robots assisting humans in everyday life, it would surprise nobody if aliens showed up there first.

5. North Korea knows things the rest of us don't. North Korea is rumored to have recently released a statement claiming that their nuclear reactor has the dual capability of communicating wirelessly with alien species up to 1,000 light years away in real time. Of course, we can't believe everything that the North Korean government says, but seriously, I wouldn't be surprised at all if they were already communicating with other planets. If that's the case, it should be relatively easy for Japan, a neighboring country, to intercept their signals with laser pulses and let the world know definitively what Kim Jong Il has known for decades-that there is life beyond Earth.

Ufo Sighting In Gray Maine On July 3Rd 2013 Confusing May Not Have Been Ufo But No Real Explanation

UFO SIGHTING IN GRAY, MAINE ON JULY 3RD 2013 - CONFUSING - MAY NOT HAVE BEEN UFO, BUT NO REAL EXPLANATION.

I was babysitting for my neighbor - two 9-year-olds and a 13-year-old (I'm 18). We were playing Wii, and we heard someone shout, "Hey!" from outside - it sounded exactly like my neighbor. At the same time, the computer in the room shut itself off and the TV flickered. We figured that the adults had arrived home, but when we went to the window, there was nothing outside except for this strange shadow. It looked like it might be a person, but it didn't move. We waved at it, and it started emitting this red-orange sort of linear light - almost like a sparkler, but the light pulsated. We started to panic, and I called the person whose voice we thought we heard and told him what was going on. When I went back to the window, the light was gone, but the shadow was still there. The adults arrived 15 minutes later, and we told them what had happened. When I went outside to go home, I noticed a dark spot on the driveway, like what happens if you splash water on a spot, but it was too dark to really make anything out. We all really think it was some kind of strange alien that copied the voice of the person we thought we heard somehow, and we were all scared for our lives. I know at least one of the other witnesses had a nightmare from it - it was really unnerving. Even the two pet dogs at the house with us were acting very strange, jumping up on the couch and panting heavily even though it wasn't hot outside. I had taken several photos of the light, but they've disappeared, despite other pictures I took that night being unneffected.
