"Nearest airport to Black Rock Lab is Soldier Meadow NR2(NV05) located
9.27 miles from Black Rock on a heading of 236* to 306*. Black Rock Lab is on a return heading of 115*-124* from Soldier Meadow NR2
(NV05). In IFR conditions, climb to 8,000 ft to avoid terrain
collision.
To fly to Area 51 etc from Black Rock: Download and install the
required "Nevada Test Range" scenery (filename: "nts2000.zip" by
Michael Alvarado michaelj@tyler.net - Copyright 2000) from
www.flightsim.com if you want most of the "secret" airports to be
visible. Otherwise, these will show up as salt lakes in the standard FS2000 scenery.
This scenery includes the famous Area 51 "secret" base, (not to
mention some interesting dynamic scenery such as a couple of
patrolling A10's and a Blackbird parked in the "big Hangar" at Area
51), which the US government has denied its existence for some
time. The base is site for testing of classified/secret U.S. stealth aircraft, and also has attracted a cult of UFO enthusiasts which
believe the U.S. recovered a UFO at Roswell in the '40's and is being reverse engineered at this and the nearby "S4"site. The package
includes other detailed scenery of the Nellis Air Force Range and
Nuclear Testing site, the largest government owned piece of real
estate, roughly the size of Connecticut. This area is of great
historical importance in both aircraft and weapons development. It is both real and currently very active. Whether UFO's exist there or not, that's another story. First, fly to Soldier Meadow from Black Rock Lab on a heading of 306*.
Once you are directly over the airport, switch to hover mode and reset autopilot or land and create a Flightplan FROM Soldier Meadow NR2
(NV05) TO Civa (NV01), the nearest airport to Area 51. Distance is
approximately 242 nm. Fly at least 12,000 ft altitiude to avoid
collision with mountain terrain, on a heading of 120*. Once over Civa (NV01), either land or hover, and reset course to 185*. Area 51 lies approx 46.8 mls from Civa NV01. Fly at an altitude of 9-10,000 ft.
Alternatively, set a course from Civa NV01 toward L74 which will carry you virtually straight over Area 51 enroute. Papoose S4 is easily
visible from Area 51 at this altitude, although only as a salt lake, and lies on a heading of 195* and 39.2 nm from Civa
NV01. Alternatively, fly to S4 then turn to 129* to head for Area 51.
